Volunteer Opportunities:
You can help with…
Door-to-Door Campaign:
Volunteers can act
as chairperson for one of the three Island regions, manage zones
throughout each region, or canvass door-to-door in one of the regions.
Day Respite: Enhancing care
by providing social stimulation and by assisting in activities based on
participants' abilities, past interests and values (e.g. card games,
board games, bingo, walks, baking, sing-a-longs, etc.)
Driving: Providing
transportation to and from the day respite program on Tuesday for
people with Alzheimer Disease.
Baking: Donating baked
goods for our day respite program, meetings and auctions.
Special Events : Planning,
marketing and ticket distribution.
Auction: Helping to
organize an annual auction and/or collecting items for the auction.
Office Support: Answering
telephones, filing, photocopying, sorting, stamping brochures, stuffing
envelopes, assembling canvass kits, organizing the resource centre,
etc.
Support Groups:
Facilitating support group 1.5 to 2 hours per month. Training is
available.
Speakers Bureau:
Participating in a series of information sessions, each having a unique
focus on Alzheimer Disease and other dementias. Some volunteers enjoy
public speaking.
Volunteer Recruitment:
Enrolling volunteers for the society.
Gardening: Helping to
maintain and further develop our small garden.Donating flowers, shrubs,
etc for our garden.
House Maintenance: Painting,
cleaning, decorating, wallpapering, sewing, woodworking, etc.
Media Watch: Cutting out
articles from papers, taping relevant television shows/news reports on
Alzheimer Disease and related diseases.
Proposal Writing: There
are many opportunities in this area.
Advocacy Committee:
Advocating for families and keeping updated on current information on
Alzheimer Disease. This group is a voice for all those affected.
Public Relations: Raising
awareness by handing out materials, informing the public about
available resources, and building community and media contacts.
