2010 Award Recipient: Parkdale Sherwood
Lions Club
The 9th Annual Alzheimer Leadership Award Luncheon was held on June 24, 2010 at the Charlottetown Hotel with over 160 people in attendance. Our guest speaker for this event was Linda Boyle, who is currently living with Alzheimer’s disease. Danny Murphy announced the recipient of the award, named in his honor – The Parkdale Sherwood Lions Club.
This award is the highest honor that the Alzheimer Society of Prince Edward Island bestows, and it is awarded during the Danny Murphy Leadership Award Luncheon each year. The Parkdale Sherwood Lions Club purchased the house on 166 Fitzroy Street that the Alzheimer Society now calls home. For one dollar a month, the Society is able to have a place in which to work from. Without this generous gift, this kind of space downtown would be unrealistic for the Society to have. The Parkdale Sherwood Lions club has also contributed to numerous renovations and general upkeep of the building, which is invaluable as well. This type of commitment to the Alzheimer Society is greatly appreciated and that gratitude was shown during this year’s award luncheon.
During the Danny Murphy Leadership Award Luncheon the Alzheimer’s Society also honored eight Door to Door volunteers who participated annually in our capital campaign held in October of each year. They were honored with pins signifying the number of years they have been volunteering with the society. Their names are: Chris Lane, Mary Hagen, Kristen Connor, Shelia McGaughey-Coyle, Ann Foley, Judith MacKenzie and Tom Connor. Thank you again to all our volunteers, we appreciate your commitment and involvement.
